I think we all have a ‘right’ to be epic and to look the part, too – whether you wear designer, high street, vintage or thrifted clothes, or best, your combination of all those. I’ve been cracking codes for years but here I’m exploring what makes epic street style and share my looks, style hacks and thoughts to inspire you to become the style star you deserve to be.
Did style stars wake up like this?
Think about any of your favourite present-day style icons, the ones everyone says are admired for their innate style. And, goodness, some are really good, too. Do you think that, one fine day, they just woke up like you see them now? The answer is both ‘sort of’ and ‘most definitely not’. What makes them epic? Most have good taste and a sense of style – just like millions of people on Earth. Some have the lucky genes. Some even have the means to afford ‘It’ bags and shoes, gadgets, photographers, fashion-central locations, exotic travels, full teams and all the marketing budget you can imagine – unlike most people. But there must be more – nicely packaged crap would still be just crap you couldn’t get away with for long. What, then? Chances are there are boys and girls on your icons roster who came from virtually nothing, so listing the above is just an excuse for not being epic.
I’m sure you’ve guessed the most basic rule: you work at it. Work your pretty butt off, in fact, day after day if you mean business, but you’ll enjoy the ride. Luckily, there are things you can work on. And while at it, you have to be – or just act – fearless. You can take a lot of risks and succeed, or sometimes fail at nailing it. You might get a lot of good hype for something you think is lousy or, in turn, get nothing for something bloody brilliant you do. The wrong reaction to that is to let yourself be defined by the hype, which can really mess up everything you built up. It’ll eat you whole and spit you back to square one: insecurity. What do you do? You learn to make sure you do your very own thing, and if you still want to, work at getting hyped for what you really are. Just look around – it’s all possible.
What is epic?
When you’re epic…
- …you are central to your story and people admire your style whether it’s minimal, opulent, hippie, gothic, girly, man-repelling, or all of those.
- …it does not come from money but the drive, the creativity, the work you put in and the smarter you grow as you follow through.
- …you get a thrill out of looking and feeling top-notch-blogger-cool every day, even if some people don’t ‘get it’.
- …you stand out for your sense of style even if you’re not the peacock type.
- …with research, practice and self-awareness you will make better style choices you’ll find most wardrobe-and-purse-friendly.

On Epic Street Style, I will be sharing my looks, style hacks and thoughts to inspire you to achieve all that, probably along with some travel diaries and other lifestyle-type snippets of wisdom I have picked up and now live by.
