I found an easy and chic way to wear a Nineties style crop top, and it also works for those who don’t want to show too much skin. I bet it would be perfect for the office too, with a blazer.
Going out in the summer doesn’t get easier or more chic than this. And who would have thought I could actually work a crop top? Well, not me. It’s a challenge I never thought I would have to face. I haven’t worn crop tops since my teens and I can’t say I have the fondest memories of some of those anyway. So, when flashing midriff became all the rage, I knew someone who would surely opt out.
Still, there was something I forgot to consider, and that is the new waistline. I’m not a fan of high-waisted pieces because I thought they had to be uncomfortable – you can’t properly slouch in them without hurting yourself or looking fat in the middle. Since then I changed my mind somewhat, see the look and style hack for high-waisted denim flares.
Now, with skirts, I must say crop tops and high waists go together like coffee and cream. I’ve found there is a way to work the look even if you don’t feel like showing too much skin. Just make sure you ditch the brutally cinched-in waist, pick clothes that are softly snug instead and a whole new world of versatile coordinates and other perfectly mix-and-match-worthy pieces opens up before you.
Finally, just a note: high-rise denim flares just need a glam tuck-in. But high-waist skirts work way better if you pair them with crop tops, and you won’t have to worry about lumps, ever.
