Can’t go wrong with black and white, right? I love to create casual looks by building on the smart and formal quality of a black and white combo. Blue is one of the few colours I wear and all I can say is, it works miracles! Check out my fave ways to dress down pure black and white here, here and here – and how to invert the colourway, here and here. As a bonus, I threw in some of my snaps of the London City walk I did in this outfit, including the view from Saint Paul’s Cathedral to update my old skyline pics 🙂
How to style black and white for an easy smart casual look
The right jeans. The jeans I’m wearing here are my lace-up Jamie jeans. If you are a regular at Topshop, you know the Jamie is one of the most solidly available jeans styles. What’s best is, you can get it in dozens of finishes and in regular, petite or tall lengths. You will see that the high waist, the skinny fit and the ankle length cut will work perfectly with this outfit. If you are wondering, I’m a petite 5’2″ but I rarely buy petite jeans – I go with the regular version in a 30″ length.
The white top. Anything goes, as long as it’s white. For quality and comfort, I recommend light cotton or linen crew neck or V-neck t-shirts. The absolute basics.
The shoes. I have literally, shamelessly, worn the hell out of this flat leather pointed toe V-cut pair. This is my go-to when I want something easy, smart and comfy. Move over, Gucci.
The cover-up. This steel blue light bomber is a true oldie I bought years before padded bomber jackets came back in style. It hasn’t seen much wear but it was cheap, it’s incredibly light and adds a touch of colour to my mostly greyscale wardrobe.
Accessories. The most basic piece is a big-small minimal leather bag. To add a bit of a sparkle here and there, I wear my satin bandana scarf and a loop detail belt.
How do you shake up pure black and white?
Cheers,
Gabriella
