After the last epic suit look that works from spring to autumn, I felt like creating a cool, minimal winter version. It’s the perfect 9-to-5 outfit if you want to look sharp and feel warm – here you go!
Today’s sharp minimal look
While the summer outfit was quite feminine thanks to the trumpet sleeves and the lace-up detail, here’s where things get really truly boyish. I can’t tell you how much I love to dress this sharp on a normal working weekday. In a business casual environment, you get a few second glances as if you were dressed outright edgy!
The cool minimal basics
The suit trousers I’m wearing are the just like the ones I had on last time but one size up. There’s a good trick, though. As my weight changes slightly between summer and winter, I like to keep two sizes of your fave smart basic trousers in my closet for maximum comfort.
The classic sharpish blazer is already a few years old, I keep it because both the cut and the fabric exude quality. I don’t wear it often nowadays but when I do it feels like a real treat.
The grey ribbed poloneck sweater is a real oldie but why part with it while it’s still in one piece, right?
The black coat is the most minimal boyish thing I could find. I picked it up in Mango last year I think, to go with minimal business outfits and some old school mod looks I wanted to do.
The accessories
Now, I really, really love the flat leather boots I got at the end of last summer. They are soft leather sock boots with amazing detailing. I’m very happy that I didn’t order them online as I would have gone a size bigger. Luckily, I tried them on in Topshop and ended up going a size down. I think Topshop’s sizing has shifted a bit in the past couple of years towards Italian sizing. This means my 36/UK 3 size has become bigger but in turn, I can now get a 35/UK 2 when I want to make sure the shoes don’t fall off or look snug when they need to.
At this point, we badly need a cute little twist. The sleek and simple silver loop belt is just perfection – without it, the look would be bordering on unbearably demure. After all, with the basics you show you know what’s proper. With the twists you make sure everyone else knows you did it all on purpose. And, thanks to the proper stuff you’re wearing, you get away with practically anything outlandish you want to risk.
The minimal chic camera bag is my go-to these days, it’s the 1995 silver by Nakedvice.
How do you make sure you are cool, smart and warm all day long at the office, whatever life throws at you?
Love,
Gabriella
